British Prime Minister May has stated that London will seek a "new, deep, and special relationship with the whole of the EU" after Brexit and has pledged to strengthen bilateral ties with Spain. Both King Felipe VI of Spain and the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of defending free trade and close cooperation for security and the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Felipe VI demanded security after the Brexit for both Spanish citizens and companies established in the United Kingdom, so that negotiations move toward an outcome that minimizes uncertainties and the risk of obstacles in the bilateral relationship.
On the other hand, at a dinner, the King of Spain urged British business leaders to "place Spain more prominently on their investment lists" and to "intensify their presence in the domestic market."
Finally, Felipe VI expressed his affection, admiration, and respect for the Spanish people living in the United Kingdom at the Spanish embassy, expressing his confidence that the Brexit agreement will soon provide them with "the necessary certainty" that will allow them to continue their jobs and their current way of life.
