Ivan Pacheco
Hello Travel Work.
It's been almost two years since I left for a 5-week stay at a food control laboratory in Devon.
During my stay, I naturally improved my English considerably. Especially when it came to communication, I ended up practicing the famous British accent without any problems. When I arrived I had a high B2 and I returned to Catalonia with a C1. On the other hand, sharing a workspace with other people improved my way of working in a group and I learned to use some of the equipment in the laboratory.
As for day to day life, I lived in Torquay and worked in Newtton Abbot. Even though my work was about 40 minutes away by bus, it was worth it because Torquay had a lot of interns and a lot more social life. Also, the host family was very nice and cooked very well. And since I also lived with other interns, there wasn't a night that I didn't have plans to do!
I value this whole personal and professional experience very highly. Needless to say, the fact that I did an internship has helped me to obtain a scholarship to study a master's degree in chemistry in Paris, as it has been a differential treatment that has made me stand out among the other candidates.
Therefore, it is an experience that I would recommend to everyone who wants to improve their English and gain professional experience.
