Carolina B
Carolina B. tells us what she has been doing this past year with TRAVEL WORK:
In August 2012 I left for Australia. I had just graduated in veterinary medicine and was looking for opportunities abroad. I landed in Brisbane and spent a weekend with other young people from around the world at Rainbow Beach. The following week we did a full course to prepare for working on Australian farms, where you learn a bit of everything. The following weekend I was settled on a farm near Alice Springs where I worked as a vet but also did all the other typical farm tasks.
Life in Australia is quite expensive, but salaries are in line with the standard of living. The feeling in the country is that people are very happy. The farm program allows you to save a lot in a short time since you have a salary of about $400-800 per week, which you can save entirely since most farms include accommodation and food. You can also experience life in the Australian Outback, an experience that many Australians pay to live in.
The visa allows you to work in the country for 12 months, but it also gives you the freedom to travel a lot and save money. In my case, I travelled all over Australia, I was able to spend New Year's Eve in Sydney, I explored New Zealand in a camper van for a month and I travelled around many countries in South East Asia.
In short, the last year has been a great experience both personally and professionally. I have improved my level of English and have become more agile in order to be able to move around the world on my own and deal with all kinds of situations. I have also been able to save money and travel a lot. I am very happy with how everything has gone and I would recommend it to everyone.
